hooray

So I got a fellowship today. Basically this means I get paid to study, and have a chance to work closely with some very bright people at my school. It also means I can make a decent (almost adult) living while I get my PhD.

Today is one of those extreme gratitude days. As much as work has been difficult lately, I’ve really been given the opportunity to live out a dream. I’m paid to discover and teach.

I get almost giddy when I realize that if I choose, I can spend the rest of my life as an explorer and guide. I’m passionate about both those things; research and teaching. They go together intimately. I want to give my students real opportunities to make discoveries that mean something to them, the same way my mentors have for me.
